A man was rescued by police and the lifeboat service after jumping into the river from Putney Bridge.
The man, believed to be in his 40s, threw himself off the bridge into the River Thames at about 11pm yesterday.
A tweet from MPS Helicopters said: "Working with @MPSonthewater @TowerRNLI @MPSWandsworth in regards to a male sitting on the edge of Putney Bridge."
Minutes afterwards the police helicopter service tweeted the man was recovered straight away by the lifeboat service.
He was taken to St Mary's Hospital as a priority by the London Ambulance Service.
Witnesses said they were left reeling in shock after watching the scene unfold.
Filosofizer tweeted: "Just crossing Putney bridge, hordes of police etc and just saw someone jump in the river and get hauled out onto boat."
The incident comes after police stopped a man on Wednesday from threatening to jump from Putney Bridge.
