At the last supper, was there a 14th diner, abscured from view of Da Vinci's famous painting, beneath the table waiting for scraps?

Putney author Peter Ward certainly suggest their may have been as he re-tells one of the world's most famous tales through the eyes of St Peter's pooch Kalba, the Hebrew for dog.

The gospel according to...dog, by Peter Ward, reinterprets the story of Jesus Christ through the eyes of the faithful canine, and is set top be published on April 30.

All the miracle stories and milestone events are interpreted entirely differently through the eyes, ears and, in particular the nose, of Kalba, apparently rescued by St Peter as a puppy.

Mr Ward said: "I wanted to re-tell a well-known story but with a different perspective, as if through the eyes of a visitor from another time and place.

"The reader will obviously be from another time and the dog, Kalba, is in effect from another place in that he views things and events so differently from his human masters.

"This is what draws you in and makes it an engaging read for children and adults alike."

Unlike the reader, Kalba has no understanding of the momentous events unfolding around him and his only concern is to guard his human masters.
