Channel 4’s nail-biting documentary series 24 Hours in A&E is currently being filmed at St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

Approximately 100 fixed cameras have been installed in the emergency department and on the new helipad which will be filming until early July.

Wandsworth Times:

In total 30 one-hour episodes will be made and are expected to be broadcast this autumn.

The documentary series will film St George’s busy A&E department featuring daily life-or-death dramas.

It was previously filmed at King’s College Hospital where it was a huge hit with viewers as well as winning awards.

Hamo Forsyth executive producer of 24 Hours in A&E said: “We looked around the country for a new hospital and St George's A&E department had everything we were looking for and more.

Wandsworth Times:

“We were very impressed by the professionalism of the team.  Not only do they offer world-class care to patients, but we really picked up on the strong team spirit and friendliness amongst staff.”

Dr Phil Moss, clinical director for the emergency department at St George’s Hospital said: “We didn't have to think too hard before agreeing to open our doors to 24 hours in A&E - we have a lot to be proud of, as I'm sure the viewers will see for themselves.

"We are grateful to our colleagues at King's College Hospital for trail-blazing this format so brilliantly."

Concerns were raised at recent board meeting that the filming could disrupt and impact performance but St George’s medical director Ros Given-Wilson explained that filming would not involve a camera crew and would not be intrusive.

The emergency department’s resources are not being used and the trust is being paid to cover any costs.
