Residents on a Queenstown estate attacked police officers who were chasing a wanted man.

A man wanted by police since the end of May was arrested in the early hours of July 10.

A PC and one of the borough’s super facial recognisers were involved in a foot chase in the Savonna estate.

They managed to catch up with the man, who was wanted for failing to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on May 29 for burglary and in connection with the theft of a moped.

Police said a small minority of residents proceeded to attack the arresting officers in an obvious attempt to free the arrested man.

Bottles were thrown and the officers had to call for some back up before they dispersed.

Nobody was hurt and nobody has been arrested. Anyone with information should call 101.
