Is Wandsworth’s property market out of control? In recent weeks an alleyway full of bins sold for £260,000 and three garages sold for £500,000.

With £260,000, outside of the capital, you could buy a semi-detached, three bedroom home.

But one buyer decided a dark alleyway, in Battersea’s Northcote Road, was more up their street.

The site, sandwiched between a Starbucks and a charity shop, went for more than five times the guide price of £55,000 this week.

Planning permission for the site means it can be converted into a residential home, with Savills, the auctioneers, suggesting an artist’s studio.

The alleyway, lined with bins and rubbish, is on the west side of Northcote Road and walking distance from both Clapham and Wandsworth Commons and Clapham Junction.

Wandsworth Times:

This is not the only astronomical sale in Wandsworth in recent months. In July three garages without planning permission sold for a staggering £500,000.

The row of garages, in Benkarne Road near Wandsworth Common, were offered at a guide price of £130,000.
