Invention is the name of the game at an imagination centre in West Thornton School.
Bill Currie, winner of British inventor of the year 2008, is starting the project on July 22, so schoolchildren have a space to design and create inventions.
Mr Currie said: “Schoolchildren always seem to be getting in trouble, so I wanted to have a place to be creative and do something productive.
“Kids are always coming up with crazy ideas, but people would be surprised if they found out how many of them could actually work.”
The project is to be launched at 11am. Kane Kramer, inventor of the MP3 player, will be cutting the ribbon to officially open the centre.
