Hersham teacher gets fundraising for Ugandan training centre

A teacher at Bell Farm Junior School in Hersham has set up a charity to raise money for a teacher training centre in a remote part of Uganda.

Ben Cooper, 35, set up Educate (Education and Development for Ugandan Children and Teachers) after visiting the area while studying for a postgraduate certificate in education at Kingston University.

He is now trying to raise £13,000 to provide the Ugandan community with the training centre.

He said: “I was moved by the people who hosted me and by the children’s enthusiasm for learning. It motivated me to come back home and do my bit.”
