More than 100 young people participated in a project to help change the perception of young people in Croydon following the riots.

The Project Change volunteers split into teams and took to the borough's streets to clear rubbish and clean up the old Croydon General Hospital site.

Some youths helped community group UnderCroydon to paint a mural on the hoardings around the site.

Other teenagers delivered letters to local business and residents The event was organised and overseen by Gavin BarwelL MP for Croydon Central.

He said: "Overall it was a big success, I think it was very positive. The reaction from traders was good as was the response from Broadgreen."
