Plans for Phase Three of the Battersea Power Station development were unveiled this morning.

Key to the project is designs for The Electric Boulevard, a trendy high street that will serve as the main gateway to the area.

The retail stretch will connect the new Northern Line Extension to the power station itself.

The third phase will also see the construction of 1,300 new homes, to be divided up into two zones on the 42-acre site.

Work on 103 of the 517 affordable homes to be built in the area will also get underway.

A 160 room hotel is also part of the project, with building work on 350,000 sq feet of retail and leisure space getting underway.

The bold and innovative designs were imagined by world renowned architects from Gehry Partners and Foster + Partners.

Gehry Partners' portfolio includes the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA and the Guggenheim in Bilbao.

The firm have designed ‘Prospect Place’ for the power station development, a crop of five buildings to the east of The Electric Boulevard.

These will house street-level retail units and a multi-purpose community hub.

Foster + Partners have previously designed London's ‘Gherkin’ building and the British Museum.

They have put togther plans for a building to the west of The Electric Boulevard, dubbed ‘The Skyline.’ The ambitious structure will undulate along the line of the high street, with breaks in the building allowing light to burst through.

The top of the building will give way to one of London’s largest roof gardens, with breath-taking views of the power station and beyond.

‘The Skyline’ will hold 103 affordable homes, a medical centre, and a 160 room hotel.

Rob Tincknell, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said: "We have set out to make Battersea a showcase for the world’s very best architects, and the designs we are unveiling today demonstrate that commitment in action."

The redevelopment of the area began in July 13 last year and is expected to take about five years to complete The area will comprise more than 3,400 homes as well as offices, shops, restaurants and bars, There will also be community and leisure facilities, and 18 acres of open space.
