A popular musical event which has raised more than £300,000 for charities over more than two decades has been cancelled.
The Rotary Club of Carshalton Beeches has decided to call time on its annual Music in the Park event after last year's concert failed to break-even following years of dwindling attendances.
The event, held in Carew Manor, gave people the chance to enjoy live music and fireworks while quaffing champagne and picnics.
Over the decades charities including Jigsaw4u, The Wave Trust, Sutton Young Carers, local Scout and Boys Brigade groups and the Diamond Centre have benefited from the £300,000 it has raised.
The Rotary Club of Carshalton Beeches' president Martin Midgley said: "2012 was a very difficult year for us.
"Over recent years our attendances have been falling and, in fact, we made a loss overall on the night. The cost of putting on such an event is ever increasing and we have found it difficult to find an appropriate sponsor to support our work."
The club is planning a charity golf day on Wednesday, June 26, and is looking for teams to get sign up. if you are interested you can contact Jim Wagstaff on 0208 642 3762 or email jimwagstaff@yahoo.co.uk.
