Teddington choir moving venue

A chamber choir will perform their annual show in a new venue for the first time in 37 years.

Cantanti Camerati will perform their traditional Just a Song at Twilight concerts at the Normansfield Theatre in Teddington, rather than their usual home in York House, Twickenham.

The group hope the move to the Victorian theatre will be suited to their programme, which is based on the spirit of the music hall with relaxed cabaret-style atmosphere.

The audience will be transformed to another era as they sit around small tables to enjoy the songs under the direction of Geoffrey Bowyer to this year’s theme of the good old days.

Among the songs will be popular numbers from Gilbert and Sullivan, such as Three Little Maids and Braid the Raven Hair, from the Mikado, and I Hear the Soft Note from Patience.

The audience will also be invited to sing along to old favourites Daisy Bell, Down at the Old Bull and Bush, the Floral Dance and Don’t Dilly Dally on the Way.

The choir will perform opera choruses such as the Waltz Song from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, the Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Verdi’s Nabucco and Bridal March from Wagner’s Lohengrin.

As is now tradition, the show will finish with a performance of the moving theme tune Love’s Old Sweet Song Just a Song at Twilight.
