Oscar Wilde’s theatrical masterpiece, regarded as one of the greatest comedies in the English language, is coming to Epsom.

The Importance of Being Earnest has delighted millions of theatre-goers since its first London performance in 1895 and now an audience at the Epsom Playhouse will be able to enjoy this comedy of manners, which overflows with wordplay and comic invention.

Jack is in love with Gwendolen.  Algernon is in love with Cecily.  But when an identity crisis spirals out of control, the previously separate worlds of town and country collide and mayhem ensues.

Thoughts of marriage and a happy ending must be put on hold until the inimitable Lady Bracknell can be convinced that the young men are worthy suitors.

The playhouse says The Importance of Being Earnest has it all - wonderful characters, sparkling dialogue, gloriously improbable plot twists and a sprinkling of romance.

The London Classic Theatre (LCT) promises to bring this 19th Century classic to vivid, extravagant life with their customary flair, attention to detail, high-quality casting and impeccable production values.

The company has performed to more than 300,000 people at more than 150 theatres and art centres across the country.

Led by founder and artistic director Michael Cabot, it is known for producing challenging, accessible drama for audiences in London and the regions, and has explored the work of some of the finest playwrights of the last 50 years including Joe Orton, Harold Pinter, Brian Friel and Mike Leigh.
