David Walliams to promote new book in Leatherhead
Comedy star David Walliams will be returning to his roots when he appears at Leatherhead Theatre on Saturday to raise money for his mum’s girlguiding group.
Walliams, who along with Matt Lucas brought audiences memorable Little Britain characters Lou and Andy, and Emily "I’m a lady" Howard, will be in conversation with Heat magazine’s Boyd Hilton about his latest children’s novel Ratburger at the theatre.
The talk will be followed by a book signing and a chance to meet the funny man himself.
The comedian, 41, who swam the 140-mile long River Thames last year in aid of Sport Relief, grew up in Banstead, and ticket proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the Girlguiding Banstead District - where his mum, Kathleen Williams, has been a brown owl for more than 20 years.
The District needs to raise £200,000 to replace its headquarters’ building, which is in desperate need of repair, and has so far raised half of this amount.
Ratburger is Walliams’ fifth book and introduces readers to uber-villain, Burt, a character children will love to hate.
The story tells the tale of little lonely Zoe and her ice-cream-loving Dad. Zoe must rescue her newly adopted rat, Armitage, from the clutches of Burt but will she be successful? This exciting adventure is billed as being packed full of zest, jeopardy and classic Walliams wit.
The Britain's Got Talent judge said: "I can't wait for my young fans to get their hands on Ratburger. It is my scariest and funniest book yet."
