Bat walk on Elmbridge's radar

If you are barmy about bats and would like to find out more about the fascinating, flying creatures, join Elmbridge Council’s bat walk.

Led by the council’s countryside rangers, walkers will be invited to use bat detectors which convert the high-pitch sound of a bat’s call to a frequency that can be heard by the human ear.

Walkers will be looking out for pipistrelle and daubenton’s bats as they leave their roosts to hunt insects to the water’s surface.

The walk takes place on Esher Commons on Friday, October 5, from 6.45pm to 8.15pm and walkers are to meet in Horeshoe Clump car park, off Portsmouth Road.

If you are more down to earth and would rather look at some of the crazy looking mushroom varieties that grow all over your local woodlands, join in with the fungi walk.

You will discover some interesting species and widen your knowledge about the kingdom of fungi.

The fungi walk takes place on Sunday, October 14, from 10am to noon. Walkers are to meet in Copsem Lane car park.
