Southfields club invites new members to join

A newly-refurbished community club in Southfields is inviting local people to come down and join them.

The Southfields CIU, based on Standen Road, has a new bar, pool tables, newly-installed Sky TV and a dart board.

The club, which reopened in July, was able to fund the refurbishment by selling off part of the building which has become the Gardens Nursery.

Elaine Riley, the club secretary, said: "People can bring their children along, it's a really lovely atmosphere, all people have to do is sign up to our membership.

"We have discos and other community events and the hall can be hired out for weddings, funerals etc."

The club is open every weekday from 12pm-11pm, on Saturdays from 12pm-1am and on Sundays from 12pm-10.30am.

Amazing how this club is allowed such a late licence, situated on a residential road, yet other pubs in commercial areas in the area aren't allowed in case the noise and disruption upsets the local residents! Double standards!
Also saying that its a lovely atmosphere is a lie! Has anyone ever heard the shouting, swearing & fighting at closing time??

in response to the comment above, I have been a member of this club for a number of years, and can say that it is a lovely club with great member, the atmosphere is friendly and a nice family place, who ever made this comment must be either old in which case ant noise is a lot,or a stick in the mud, there has not been a fight in a few years because of the great people who run and are members now,and as for swearing i can sadly say it a way of life and happens wherever you go,not only from the club.
may I say why don't you take time out of your lives and come and visit us,im sure you would like what you see

I would like to respond to the negative comment on this club. I also have been a member of this club for over 20 years and have had numerous great nights with family and friends in this establishment. Over the 20 years i have been in there i have only witnessed a handfull of incidents which are very quickly dealt with by a commitee and loyal club members. Local residents are invited to come into this club at any time to discuss any issues they may have had regarding noise ect, but as the comment says above swearing is a way of life and on quite a few occasions the club has had phone calls from neighbours complaining about noise and when our members go outside to investigate it`s been found that its not even our members its just some passing by louts making a noise. If the person above would like to contact the police and get some facts on how many times they have been called they will tell them proberbly over 20 years about twice. I would also like to mention that the Guardian has printed the times wrong, the club is licensed till 12.00 on a saturday with the bar closing at 11.45. Clubs like this are a dying bread and are needed in our communitee to keep the community together a good number of members are old school friends from the area as well {me included)

So swearing is a way of life?? Maybe, but doesn't mean its acceptable!
I'm not against people having fun, but think of others when you've all gone home!
