If your toasted macaroni cheese sandwiches are the world’s best or your paella is to die for, then your street food truck luck could be in.

A project organised by Food Hub is looking for seven budding street food traders who will be given free space in Surrey Street Market in Croydon town centre.

The prize also includes the catering equipment needed so the traders can make their dreams a reality.

Croydon Council is leading the initiative, in partnership with other organisations, to try to make the market a mecca for foodies looking for interesting alternatives to their regular breakfast, lunch, or early evening meals.

Food Hub will give successful applicants up to £3,000 towards the cost of their food stall and running a demonstration kitchen area for teaching, cooking demonstrations and workshops.

It will also offer six months of support to help them build their businesses.

This will include a tailored package of training and mentoring and will also offer a professional marketing campaign to help promote the area as a destination for lovers of quality street food.

The seven appointed food traders are expected to create two new jobs lasting at least 26 weeks each.

Application forms are available by sending an email to Dayo.Ogunmuyiwa@croydon.gov.uk or by calling 020 8604 7092. Successful applicants would have to put up a minimum of 10 per cent of the initial investment.
