The Cronx brewery hope to combine barrels of laughs with barrels of beer by hosting a comedy night.

Founded in 2012 by Mark Russell and Simon Dale, the pair have clearly always hoped to bring some humour to the area, with them admitting the brewery’s name is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Bronx.

They now hope to take it to the next level with the promise of both booze and belly laughs.

Though the Cronx has held open days, charity events and private functions at their brewery, this will be the venue’s first comedy night, and they hope it will help to fill a laughter void left by the lack of a local comedy club.

Russell says: “There is no comedy club in Croydon so it is great to host an intimate event like this, and the fact we have some great acts on makes it even better.

“We are hoping it will become a regular event. It all depends on how the first night goes, but it would be great to have a monthly comedy night.

“Ever since we started we wanted to host a comedy night in the brewery. We are both into our stand-up comedy and think it is a perfect match alongside beer.”

For the event, they’ve drafted in comedians Holly Walsh, as seen on Mock the Week and Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Kevin Day of Match of the Day 2 fame.

Alongside the TV regulars, upcoming acts such as Alistair Green, who was described by the Guardian as an “undiscovered genius” and Dane Baptiste, a nominee of best newcomer accolade at the Fringe Festival this year.
