Croydon is preparing to find out which companies have been crowned the borough’s business champions.
This year’s Croydon Business Awards, in association with Barclays, reaches a climax with a gala awards ceremony and dinner at the Arnhem Gallery in Fairfield Halls on Wednesday, May 22.
Malcolm John Restaurants, which owns Fish and Grill and Le Cassoulet in South Croydon, have been shortlisted for three Croydon Business Awards.
Philippa Wade-Lehman from Malcolm John Restaurants said: “We have had to work extremely hard to change the pre-conceived ideas people have of Croydon and worked to convince individuals that quality dining has a market in such an area.
“To be nominated and shortlisted in three categories is such an honour and a massive achievement.”
The awards are also providing businesses with not only a way to promote themselves but an opportunity to celebrate with their staff.
Nicola Fox, owner of Kidplay Cafe, has been shortlisted for the Best Business for Hospitality and Leisure award, and feels the current success is down to her staff.
She said: “I entered the awards for our staff as much as for any promotion it might get us. We offer something special at Kidplay.
“Our small, tight-knit group are key to that and it would be amazing for them to get that recognition. I'd love to be able to take them to a gala dinner and give them the credit they deserve.”
Peter Pledger, chief executive of South London Business, said: “This is the second time that we have held the Croydon Business Awards and the event always has a great community feel as the borough’s businesses join together to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our award winners and runners-up.”
Tickets to the gala awards ceremony and dinner are still available. For more details visit www.croydonbusinessawards.co.uk
