A Thames Ditton baker has been honoured with the industries equivalent to the Oscars.

Ernst Bachmann, who founded Bachmanns Patisserie in Thames Ditton in 1989, was presented with a lifetime achievement award at the Baking Industry Awards 2012 in London.

His achievements were recognised in front of more than 800 industry guests and Mr Bachmann was presented with the award by former Neighbours star Jason Donovan and Alan Moutter, commercial director Délifrance.

Martyn Leek, editor of awards organiser British Baker magazine, said: “The Baking Industry Awards recognise excellence in UK baking and our lifetime achievement award is reserved for those men and women have contributed something exceptional to the industry.”

Bachmanns has been spoiling Thames Ditton with the finest continental patisserie for the past 20 years, winning 17 national awards for patisserie, chocolate and product innovation.

Recognised as one of the UK’s best pastry chefs, Mr Bachmann has also worked as a City and Guilds examiner, is a member and judge for the Academy of Culinary Arts, and has been involved with the training and teaching of many young people.
