Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), 3pm on Film4

Classic western starring the legendary combo of Paul Newman and Robert Redford as the eponymous outlaws being pursued into Bolivia. Winner of four Oscars, including one for screenwriter William Goldman and two for Burt Bacharach’s music.

Superman II (1980), 4.05pm on 5USA

Christopher Reeve pulls on the tights again as the man of steel. He’s given up his superpowers to marry Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) but he’s not banking on having to deal with Gene Hackman’s Lex Luthor again, let alone three terrifying baddies from Krypton, led by Terence Stamp’s General Zod.

Back to the Future (1985), 7pm on ITV2

A solid-gold 80s classic, starring Michael J Fox as Marty McFly, a kid who must go back in time in a high-tech Delorean to save a nutty professor, played by Christopher Lloyd, and nearly catastrophically alters the future.

Tropic Thunder (2008), 9pm on BBC3

Ben Stiller directs and stars in a star-studded, over-the-top comedy about a group of actors shooting a big budget war movie who are forced into action themselves. Jack Black and Robert Downey Jnr star, with plenty more famous faces making cameos.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

Steven Spielberg directs the seminal Sci-Fi movie about a blue collar worker (Richard Dreyfuss) whose life is changed when he comes into contact with a UFO.

The Waterboy (1998), 5.25pm on Film4

You can do it! Adam Sandler stars as the dim waterboy who turns out to be a ferocious American football star when he’s wound up. This goofy comedy is a lot of fun.

Lady and The Tramp (1955), 5.30pm on Channel 5

One of the golden age of Disney’s animated movies, who will ever forget that bit with the spaghetti? Or the Siamese cats? It’s the timeless story of a scruffy working class mongrel trying to woo a posh spaniel. Adorable.

Meet the Parents (2000), 8.20pm on BBC3

A loveable comedy in which Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) proposes to his girlfriend  and everything’s great until he is invited to stay at her folks’ place and rubs up the wrong way with her uptight ex-CIA dad, played by Robert De Niro.

No Country For Old Men (2007), 12.55am on Channel 4

The Coen Brothers cleared up at the awards ceremonies with their tense thriller based on Cormac McCarthy’s novel. Starring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin, it picked up four Oscars, three BAFTAs and two Golden Globes.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15

Marley and Me (2008), 6.30pm on Film4

The Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel adapts the bestselling book about a couple of newlywed journalists (Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston) who adopt a puppy, Marley. Heartwarming.

And here it is again, in Lego

Shaun of the Dead (2004), 10pm on ITV2

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost star in the first of their three comedy collaborations with Edgar Wright. Pegg plays Shaun, a slacker who is dumped by his girlfriend the night before a zombie apocalypse hits. Shaun and his mate Ed (Frost) try to save his love and make it to safety at the local pub. Like the trio’s Spaced, it’s hilarious and stuffed with pop culture and horror movie references.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17

Legally Blonde (2001), 9pm on 5*

Reese Witherspoon is Elle Woods, a law student who is dismissed as a ‘dumb blonde’ but wins everyone round with her pink-loving ways. Fluffy comedy.

Magic Mike (2012), 11.35pm on Film4

Drawing on his own real-life experiences, beefcake Channing Tatum plays the titular Mike, who plays a stripper in his thirties who is given reason to reassess his life when a young new recruit (Alex Pettyfer) joins his team.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 18

Independence Day (1996), 9pm on Film4

Will Smith tries to save the world from an alien invasion. Cue massive explosions.

Erin Brockovich (2000), 10pm on Channel 5

Julia Roberts won an Oscar for her performance as the unemployed single mother who becomes a legal assistant and almost single-handedly brings down a company polluting the water supply in Steven Soderbergh’s real-life drama.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19

AI: Artificial Intelligence (2001), 11.45pm on BBC1

Spielberg returns to sci-fi with the story of a robot boy (Haley Joel Osment) who longs to be human.

Showgirls (1995), 1am on Film4

Paul Verhoeven’s about a dancer who tries to make it to the top as a Vegas showgirl stars Saved By the Bell’s Elizabeth Berkley, features heaps of smut and is a cult classic based largely on being so bad it’s good.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), at 11.05pm on BBC2

Widely regarded as a masterpiece, Stanley Kubrick directs this sci-fi adventure co-scripted with Arthur C Clarke about humans on a quest through space with the intelligent computer HAL 9000.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21

Carry On Again Doctor (1969), at 3.05pm on ITV3

Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Hattie Jacques, Barbara Windsor and the rest of the Carry On gain get together again for another medical-based knockabout comedy with plenty of raised eyebrows and tongues in cheek.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012), at 9pm on Channel 4

Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro and Jennifer Lawrence star in David O Russell’s dark and quirky comedy about romance and psychological troubles. Lawrence took home an Oscar for her performance.

Green Zone (2010), 11pm on Channel 4

Gravesend’s Paul Greengrass directs a rocket-propelled thriller about the Iraq War which reunites him with the star of the Bourne films, Matt Damon.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22

Stand By Me (1986), 3.20pm on Channel 5

Rob Reiner’s 80s classic coming of age drama is based on a Stephen King novella about four boys who go on a hike to find the dead body of a missing child. The incredible cast includes River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Kiefer Sutherland.

Jurassic Park (1993), at 6.30pm on ITV2

Another Spielberg classic. Scientists led by Richard Attenborough work out how to bring dinosaurs to life and open a theme park but things go catastrophically wrong during the previews and Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and chums have to survive as velociraptors and a Tyrannosaurus Rex run wild.

Top Gun (1986), at 9pm on Channel 5

Feel the need for speed as Tom Cruise stars in the classic 80s action movie as a maverick fighter pilot called, um, Maverick. Directed by Tony Scott, it also stars Val Kilmer as Ice Man. It will take your breath away.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 23

Dazed and Confused (1993), at 11.15pm on Film4

Richard Linklater (who is tipped for Oscars glory with Boyhood this year) directs a coming of age drama about kids on the last day of school in the 1970s. It features a great ensemble cast and a killer soundtrack.

Heist (2001), at 12.30am on BBC1

Master of snappy dialogue, David Mamet wrote and directed this crime thriller with a stellar cast including Gene Hackman and Danny DeVito.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011), at 9pm on Film4

A cast of exceptional, more mature, British talent assembled for a gentle comedy about a group of retirees heading to what they believe is a restored hotel in India. Stars include Dame Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy and Celia Imrie.
