Favourite numbers from the musicals, traditional tunes, jazz songs and top hits will all feature on the set list of the Teddington Choral Society’s next show.

The group will present highlights from the American Songbook at its summer concert this weekend.

They will perform an arrangement of God Only Knows, as sung by the Beach Boys, with whom accompanist Geoffrey Bowyer played in a concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall in the 1960s.

Pianist Bowyer will be joined by Mark Laflin, also on piano, while Patrick Martin will conduct the choir.

Audiences can expect an eclectic range of tunes including numbers from West Side Story, the music of Fats Waller and songs that have featured on the Billboard Hot 100 through the years, including Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

Refreshments will be on sale during the interval, including homemade American-themed cakes, while the choir does its best to look as American as possible.
