It’s already a given that the Beatles were one of the greatest British bands of the 20th Century, their songs still being played and enjoyed even today. To criticize any of their work is one thing indeed. But to rework it?

Even for Battersea resident Milos Karadaglic, regarded as some currently as the ‘World’s best classical guitarist’, this is completely new ground. Born in Montenegro, he came to the UK when he was 17 by winning a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music. Since then, his star has only risen higher.

But how did it feel creating Blackbird, the album with classical rendition of Beatles songs, working with names like Tori Amos and George Porter?

Milos said: “It was the biggest and most fun I’ve ever had in my life so far because it was a departure from what was natural for me. Now the concept of playing the Beatles’ songs on the classical guitar is not completely new, it has been done in so many different ways so I wanted to do it my way, and find my sound.

“In terms of style the project has everything, from world music to pop music, classical music, jazz and even Latin sounds, it is the most versatile thing I have ever done.”

Strangely enough, Milos doesn’t look on the Beatles with nostalgia, only knowing about them when he first came to the UK.  So when asked why he felt that they need a classical rework, he said: “Hearing them for the first time was really quite fascinating to me because they spoke the language of the people.

“There is an incredible immediacy about Beatles songs and they connect with so many people in so many generations, they have stood the test of time because they have been around for decades and for that reason they are this worthy of getting classical music.”
