Croydon choir is recruiting

Aspiring singers are being encouraged to come forward and stretch their vocal chords.

Soul Symphony is hoping to recruit new members after holding its first ever concert in May.

The group, founded by trained singer Joanne Miller performs a huge range of popular music ranging from pop and glee style music to classical tunes and soul and gospel.

Ms Miller said: "Growing up in Croydon I developed a sense of wanting to help people and see the positive impact I could contribute to people’s lives. I’m a trained singer and always wanted to share more of my talents to empower others to do the same.

"Since starting community choirs more than four years ago I have realised that so many people desperately wanted to sing and just need someone to believe in them to achieve their dream."

The group comprises of all ages, the youngest being 10 and the eldest 70, and of all backgrounds, from students to business owners.

Rehearsals include training helping singers with the technical aspects of the different music styles.

Choir member Faye Johnson said: "Joanne was an inspirational teacher and she believed in me; she has the patience of Job! She kept going over notes and information until we got it."

Rehearsals take place every Tuesday from August 7, for 13 weeks, 7.30pm - 9pm, at St John's Community Hall, Upper Selsdon Road, South Croydon CR2 8DD.
