The X-Files could be looking to find the truth out there once again, as broadcaster Fox is interested in reviving the series.

Sci-fi show The X-Files was a hit from 1993 to 2002, and bosses at Fox are said to be keen to get its stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson back on board as Mulder and Scully for a reboot.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Fox chairman and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman have been in talks with the original series creator Chris Carter about a return to the programme.

Gary said: “It’s true that we’ve had some conversations on X-Files. We’re hopeful of being able to bring that back at some point.”

Dana added: “Gary and I both worked [at 20th Century Fox Television] through the entire run of The X Files. It was a great experience. We’ve maintained good relationships with Chris, David and Gillian.

“We’re very hopeful, but it’s hard. The actors are very busy. They have a lot going on. Chris has a lot on his plate, so it’s just trying to carve out the time.”

Gillian said in November last year she was open to the idea of reprising her X Files role.

She said: “There is always a possibility, it’s always a matter of it actually happening – and there’s a lot that needs to happen between the idea and actually turning up on set, and I don’t unfortunately have any control over that. But would I do it? I would, yes.”

Meanwhile, Dana and Gary also commented on recent speculation that the network would be bringing back another of its former hits, Prison Break.

Gary said: “There is some speculation in the press about Prison Break, which, honestly, was slightly news to us.

“Although we’ve made it clear over the years to the studio that we would bring Prison Break back in a heartbeat. It’s probably the perfect event series. If our old partners in that show are interested, that would be great.”
