Celebrity Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher is to appear on Match of the Day 2 tomorrow.

It’s a rare honour for a on-footballer to get the nod as a pundit – but there are plenty of other pop stars we think should be given a go once the Oasis legend has had his go.

1. Damon Albarn

We miss the Britpop wars of the 1990s. Remember, when Noel Gallagher said he hopes Damon Albarn would die if Aids? Great times. We’ll never see the likes of them again.

Now the BBC have got Gallagher on, it seems only right they should get Albarn on for balance. Conveniently, he’s a Chelsea fan, so given the way the table is looking his views will offer a useful counterpoint to Gallagher’s City point of view.

2. Katy Perry

In truth, we’re not sure how much of a West Ham fan Perry really is. Could she talk you through the 1975 FA Cup-winning team? We’re not so sure.

Her allegiance may not even have outlasted her marriage to Hammers fan Russell Brand – who himself made an appearance on the show last season. But we’re pretty sure she’d be good for ratings, and her comments wouldn’t be notably less insightful than those of certain pundits we could think of.

3. Justin Bieber

Ah, Bieber. Of all the many inexplicable things he’s done, none took us by surprise more than when he posted pictures of himself wearing an Everton shirt on Twitter.

MOTD has had more than its fair share of former Liverpool players as oundits over the years – it’s time we balanced it out with someone from the blue half of Merseyside. After all – who’s more passionate about the Toffees than the Biebs?

4. Robbie Williams

Robbie has the advantage over many pop stars of actually having played a bit of football, so maybe he’d have some actual insight. We reckon he’d make a pretty good pundit – as long as Gary Lineker didn’t keep making puns about letting him entertain us. We’re not sure we could take that.

5. Louis Tomlinson

Former Doncaster player Tomlinson also plays music on the side with a band called One Direction. The 23-year-old, best known for being playing a reserve game against Rotherham, sings as part of the five-piece, who some might remember from their appearances on the X Factor.

If there’s nobody else available, he might just have the pop star credentials to fill the slot.
