Person Of Interest stars Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson have revealed that the new addition to the show’s cast has plenty of canine appeal.

The pair, who play John Reese and Harold Finch respectively, are joined by a Belgian Malinois dog named Bear in the fourth series of the programme.

“He’s a Belgian Malinois and he’s a very powerful dog. I think he’s a world champion – and he’s great,” Jim said.

“One of the most precious moments we caught on tape is the moment when I see him and I realise that he’s alive. I go up and hug him – and he puts me right on my back! He completely takes me down and he’s lapping me up.

“That wasn’t in the script, but it happened and the producers loved it, so they kept it in there.”

The actor revealed that the dog has already made an impact, saying: “When people see Michael, they say, ‘Where’s Bear?’ When people see me, they say, ‘Where’s Finch?’.”

Michael admitted that having a dog on set can be a distraction.

“I’ve discovered that there is no way to prepare, except to have the lines really solid because once you start shooting he’s very distracting,” he admitted.

“You’re trying to play the scene and get your lines right, whilst you’re wrestling with a wriggly animal that wants to pull you out of frame and get into your pocket to find scraps of food. The linings of my beautiful suits are now all powdered with dog-treat residue.”

The new series of Person Of Interest begins on Channel 5 on March 23.
