Alfie Allen has said he is worried about how he will pay his mortgage if his Game Of Thrones character is killed off – so much so that the writers pretended it really was happening.

The younger brother of singer Lily Allen was immortalised in her 2007 track named after him, in which she sang: “You need to get a job because the bills need to get paid.”

But now that he stars as Theon Greyjoy in the bloodthirsty fantasy TV series, known for killing off big characters, he admitted: “Yeah, I am worried if I’m going to live or not, because I’ve got a mortgage to pay.”

He added that the writers had had fun at his expense in the past: “I was asking whether or not I was going to be alive for the third series and the writers gave me a fake script, which said I was stabbed in the heart.”

In the end, Theon was hauled off to prison and tortured for most of the series.

Alfie said: “I think it’s meant to make the audience feel uncomfortable. But my poor mother, I feel sorry for her.”

In one particularly gruesome scene, Theon was castrated and Alfie commented: “I only ever get men talking to me about that.”

The prosthetic penis now does the rounds of Game Of Thrones conventions and Alfie said: “It makes me laugh, that my most prized possession, or Theon’s, is in a box going to exhibitions. But it’s a huge box!”

The fifth series of Game Of Thrones begins on Sky Atlantic on Monday, April 13.
