Former boxing promoter Kellie Maloney’s “long and difficult journey” to become a woman has been filmed for a TV documentary.

Channel 5 announced it would be broadcasting Frankly Kellie Maloney: No Going Back, a one hour show on her transformation through gender reassignment surgery.

The programme will feature the Celebrity Big Brother star’s “intimate video diaries, candid interviews and never-before-seen footage of family life… which reveal how this huge transition has affected her and her loved ones”.

Kellie said: “It’s been a long and difficult journey which I couldn’t have done without the support of my family, but for the first time in my life I can now truly accept who I am.

“By inviting the cameras in, I want to inspire others to come out and be proud of who they are, educate those unaware of gender transition issues and alleviate some of the negative stereotypes attached to the transgender community.

“At the end of the day, we are all just human beings and I hope that message comes across to viewers.”

Nick Samwell-Smith, managing director at Initial, said: “This incredibly emotive documentary highlights the extraordinary determination of this tough, funny and inspirational woman.

“Kellie has shown amazing honesty and bravery throughout and I am enormously grateful to her for allowing us to capture such a personal journey.”

During the height of Kellie’s career, the boxing promoter shepherded Lennox Lewis to world heavyweight titles in the 1990s.
