Ben Whishaw has hinted that the Paddington sequel could start shooting in 2016.

The Skyfall star, who voices Michael Bond’s furry creation in the 2014 film, revealed the second film has yet to be officially given the go-ahead.

“I’ve heard it’s happening next year,” he told the Hollywood Reporter.

He added: “It’s just whispers at the moment, nothing has been confirmed.”

Paddington, which also starred Nicole Kidman, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters and Sally Hawkins, was one of 2014′s surprise hits, becoming StudioCanal’s most successful movie.

It took more than 250 million US dollars (£160 million) at box offices worldwide.

Ben is at the Cannes Film Festival for the world premiere of his new film, The Lobster.

Directed by Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, The Lobster also stars Rachel Weisz, Colin Farrell and Lea Seydoux.
