Sharon Rooney and Reece Shearsmith have been signed up to join the cast of a new dark comedy series.
The My Mad Fat Diary actress and League Of Gentleman star are two of those featuring in BBC Two’s Stag, a comedy thriller about a stag weekend which goes horribly wrong.
It stars Peep Show’s Jim Howick as a mild-mannered schoolteacher who joins his brother-in-law, played by The Wrong Mans’ Stephen Campbell Moore and his obnoxious friends on a deerstalking expedition in the Scottish Highlands.
But when the group start to realise that they are the prey, it leads to some sordid secrets being revealed and old friendships being tested to the limit.
Other stars confirmed for Stag include JJ Feild, Rufus Jones, James Cosmo, Tim Key, Amit Shah and international guest stars Pilou Asbaek and Christiaan Van Vuuren.
Stag has been created by Jim Field Smith who worked on The Wrong Mans and Episodes, and George Kay whose past work includes The Tunnel, Our Zoo and The Hour.
Jim Field Smith said: “I can’t believe this fantastic roster of talent is joining us for seven weeks of hell in the Highlands, and can only assume they haven’t read the scripts properly.”
