Sigourney Weaver has revealed she wanted her Alien character Ellen Ripley killed off, so she wouldn’t have to appear in Alien vs Predator.

The 65-year-old actress admitted it was her decision for the scientist heroine to die in the third instalment, because she wasn’t thrilled about the prospect of returning for the sci-fi crossover movie.

Speaking at the London Film and Comic Con, she said: “Well, yes – because I heard that Fox was gonna do Alien vs Predator. Which really depressed me because I was very proud of the movies.”

Alien vs Predator, directed by Paul WS Anderson, made £110 million at box offices worldwide and spawned a sequel. The only actor to appear from either franchise was Lance Henrikson, who portrayed android Bishop in Aliens and Alien 3.

Sigourney continued: “I’ve nothing against building a movie on a video game but at the time, it was, as [Aliens director] Jim Cameron said I think publicly, ‘Why would you want to do that?’ It’s like making Alien meets the Wolfman.”

She hinted she could have some involvement in Neill Blomkamp’s untitled Alien sequel-reboot, following their previous collaboration on Chappie.

“It’s certainly something we’ve discussed. I’m so excited about Neill… He broke the tapes of these movies when he was a kid, he watched them so much,” she said.

“I love the fact that Neill’s fulfilling his childhood dream of what he hopes will be the popcorn movie, the Alien popcorn movie that he wanted as a kid to see.”

The South African filmmmaker has shared some new concept art, featuring Sigourney’s alter-ego Ripley.

Sigourney, who starred in the original Ghostbusters movies, also said she can’t wait to see Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters remake, starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

She revealed she has already had a peek at the script, saying: “It’s a wonderful script. The women are gonna do an awesome job. I know that Ivan Reitman is co-producing it.

“I hear rumours that Danny [Aykroyd] is also gonna do a script… so I think whatever happens, we’re in for a treat. I can’t wait to see the ladies do their thing.”

Neill’s Alien film is due for release in 2017, while Ghostbusters will be released in UK cinemas on July 15, 2016.
