The Great British Bake Off 2014 finalist Richard Burr has promised this year’s contestants they don’t need to be scared of judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.

The builder from north London was a runner-up on the BBC baking show last year after wowing with his impressive edible constructions and winning viewers over with his cute “pencil-behind-the-ear” look.

Richard admitted he was scared of Paul and Mary at first, but he soon realised they were actually very nice.

He said: “Mary and Paul are fantastic. You walk into the tent and are immediately terrified by them, and they don’t flip the table over and shout at you if you do a terrible cake.

“From that moment on they’re wonderful, they’re very helpful and very nurturing, when you’ve done something wrong they tell you. But they’re good.”

Richard also revealed which Bake Off contestants he is still in touch with and whose house he has been to for afternoon tea.
