Time to feel old! This week is the 21st anniversary of the first episode of Friends – The One Where It All Began.
It’s been 21 years since Rachel appeared in a wedding dress, having dumped dentist Barry at the altar; 21 years since Ross’s wife Carol moved out with her lesbian lover; 21 years since Monica went on a date with Paul the Wine Guy. Did we mention it has been 21 years?
The iconic programme ran for a decade, before the cast all went their separate ways in 2004. Here’s what they’ve been up to recently…
Lisa Kudrow – Phoebe Buffay
In a nod to Phoebe, Lisa recently popped up with Taylor Swift to duet her Central Perk favourite, Smelly Cat. She has also stuck mainly to TV work, starring as Valerie in sitcom The Comeback – and playing Fiona in Web Therapy.
Matt LeBlanc – Joey Tribbiani
Matt hung on to his Friends character after the series ended, starring as Joey in the spin-off sitcom Joey. Recently he’s been starring in Episodes, as a fictionalised version of Matt LeBlanc. Meta. Like Lisa, he also popped up on stage with Taylor during her 1989 tour – for no apparent reason.
Jennifer Aniston – Rachel Green
Jennifer has carved out a place on the big screen, starring mainly in romantic comedies – which suits her girl-next-door vibe. Films include He’s Just Not That Into You, Just Go With It, and She’s Funny That Way. This has helped her to become one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood.
David Schwimmer – Ross Geller
David has probably been the Friends alumnus least seen on screen since 2004, although soon we’ll have a chance to see him as Robert Kardashian on American Crime Story. Instead, he’s tried out directing (Run Fatboy Run; Fault Lines) and trod the boards (Some Girl(s); The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial).
Courteney Cox – Monica Geller
Courteney’s biggest hit since her Friends days has been long-running TV series Cougar Town, where she stars as Jules Cobb. Many of her former co-stars have taken the opportunity to drop in – including Matthew Perry. She’s currently in filming for 2016′s Mothers Day.
Matthew Perry – Chandler Bing
Matthew has mainly stuck to TV, with a foray into film when he co-starred with Zac Efron in 17 Again. He currently plays Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple, a show which he co-created.
We wonder where they’ll be in another 21 years…
