History was made at the Emmys for two very different reasons as Jon Hamm and Viola Davis took home the accolades for Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Lead Actress.
After eight nominations in the leading actor category over the years, the 44-year-old Hamm is finally a winner. Instead of taking the stairs, he clambered onto the stage and thanked everyone for watching his show.
Meanwhile, How To Get Away With Murder’s Viola Davis is the first black actress to ever win her category. The 50-year-old received a standing ovation for her acceptance speech.
But it was a disappointing night for the Brits. Despite nominations in several categories, only Veep’s Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci and Tony Roche flew the flag for Blighty.
