It’s only been two weeks since Sam Smith announced he was writing the James Bond Spectre theme via a teaser shot of an engraved ring.

And now he’s done it again, sharing a coy 15-second clip of his song, Writing’s On The Wall, on social media.

The upcoming Spectre theme will officially premiere on September 25, though an iTunes pre-order link for the song has it listed for release on September 28.

Drawing on traditional James Bond themes, the preview features grand soaring strings.

Sam has a lot to live up to: he follows in the footsteps of Adele, who won an Oscar for her work on 2012′s Skyfall.

The track was co-written with Jimmy Napes, Sam’s long-time collaborator, who worked with the singer on hits such as Stay With Me.

It already has a 4.5 star rating on iTunes, with one user commenting: “I honestly can’t wait for this! Going to be such a great song!”

Another Instagram follower, Khaled Alzahid, predicted: “He won Grammys and now he’s gonna win an Oscar.”

Twitter also got very, very excited.

“I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it,” Sam, 23, said earlier this month.

Spectre producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli added: “Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, Writing’s On The Wall will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time.”

Writing’s On The Wall will premiere on September 25. Spectre will be released in the UK on October 26.
