It was Movie Week on Strictly Come Dancing – and it was an epic by anyone’s standards.

After two hours of dancing, Jay was top of the leaderboard with the season’s first 10 – but what did the watching public make of it all?

Here are the musings of the watching public from a marathon night of dancing.

1. Pasha’s bum is the one.

Pasha and Carol’s quickstep wasn’t a massive hit with the judges, but the watching public barely noticed. They didn’t seem to be paying much attention to the footwork.

2. Spatulistic is not a word.

Craig pulled out his favourite word while describing Anthony’s hands during his Rocky routine. It was time to down your glass of something cold for anyone playing a Strictly drinking game, but however many times he says it we will not be convinced it’s a real word.

3. Anton can’t do Latin.

This is not news – we know Anton’s a ballroom kinda guy. But the cha-cha he put together for Katie was a bit of a horror show. She barely moved and, unsurprisingly, saw her score drop from 28 last week to 20. At least Anton was good enough to take the blame.

4. Realism isn’t terribly important in a Charleston.

Kevin and Kellie provided one of the highlights of the night with a Charleston to the Cantina theme from Star Wars – complete with lightsaber canes – but hardcore fans were not impressed. It didn’t matter much – they racked up an impressive 32 from the judges.

5. This was a good weekend for the penguin emoji.

Ainsley and Natalie did a slightly dodgy penguin routine to Happy Feet. The celebrity chef’s errors meant the scores were way down, but who cares? Penguins!!

6. The writing’s on the wall for Sam Smith.

Georgia and Giovanni danced to the theme from the new Bond film – Sam Smith’s Writing’s On The Wall. The tune may have made it to number one, but clearly it’s not a hit with Strictly fans.

7. Everyone wants to be loved by Aljaz.

Helen and Aljaz did their best Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis, dancing to I Wanna Be Loved By You. Sure, the dance was great, but mostly people just stared at Aljaz and grinned.

8. Somebody in the costume department hates Kirsty.

With most of the dancers given glamorous Hollywood costumes, it seemed particularly unfair that poor Kirsty had to dress as a dog for a Lady And The Tramp routine. It wasn’t that great, either.

9. Peter Andre might just be the most divisive Strictly contestant ever.

Peter Andre in a Captain Jack Sparrow costume was certainly an interesting sight – but he splits the audience right down the middle. The judges seem to like him though – it was sevens all round.

10. Yes, Jeremy Vine and Tim Vine are brothers.

Jeremy Vine’s gag-merchant brother Tim Vine turned up in his training segment. And that was a lightbulb moment for just about everybody watching. Yes, they really are brothers. Jeremy’s (partially intentionally) hilarious Charleston proved funny bones run in the family.

11. Anita is a contender…

It may not have got the best score of the night but the viewing public seemed to really go for Anita and Gleb’s Ghost routine. Anita is everyone’s favourite. Okay, Jeremy is everyone’s favourite – but then it’s Anita.

12. …but Jay is going to win.

We thought Kellie was great, Helen was a star and Anita was pretty special too – but they had nothing on Jay. His Pulp Fiction jive – the last dance of the night – totally stole the show. Everyone – including Jay – was a bit stunned as the judges told him it was one of the best dances they’d ever seen.

Yes. Yes he is. And he deserved it, too.
