Chloe Grace Moretz is set to star as Ariel, the Little Mermaid, in Disney’s new live-action adaptation.
The 18-year-old actress has said she is “excited” to start shooting the movie, which will be written by Richard Curtis.
The Kick-Ass star also wrote on Instagram: “I’ve been waiting months to tell everyone how excited I am to take on this beautiful journey with Working Title, Universal, and a beautiful script by Richard Curtis.. #TheLittleMermaid !!!! Here we go!!!”
The latest remake of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale, which has been in the works since 2011, has yet to find a director, following the exits of Sofia Coppola and Joe Wright.
Disney’s animated movie of The Little Mermaid, which was released in 1989, featured the voice of Jodi Benson as Ariel.
Chloe, who has also starred in Let Me In, (500) Days Of Summer and Carrie, will next be seen in crime drama November Criminals with Ansel Elgort, biographical drama Brain On Fire and the Bad Neighbours sequel alongside Zac Efron and Seth Rogen.
The story is the latest Disney tale to undergo the live-action treatment, following in the footsteps of Cinderella and Maleficent, about the Sleeping Beauty sorceress.
Live-action versions of Beauty And The Beast, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, The Jungle Book, Mulan, Dumbo, Pinocchio and Tinker Bell are also in development.
