This week’s episode of The X Factor came just 24 hours after the Paris terror attacks, which saw the French capital hit by three teams of attackers using bombs and guns, killing 129 people and injuring 350.
The theme was Movie Week and the nine remaining acts were asked to cover hit songs from films. Contestants had been practising their choices in the days leading up to the live show on Saturday night.
However, the songs were chosen in advance of the Paris attacks, and in light of the tragedy some contestants felt obliged to select new songs to perform.
Lauren Murray was originally set to sing Licence To Kill by Gladys Knight, but instead chose to perform One Last Time by Ariana Grande.
Another contestant who made a last-minute switch was Monica Michael, who changed her choice of (Bang Bang) My Baby Shot Me Down by Nancy Sinatra to What is Love by V Bozeman.
At the start of the show Simon Cowell paid tribute to the fallen victims of the Paris attacks, and told viewers to “stay safe”.
