Over 10,000 people have signed a petition calling on Kanye West not to record a David Bowie tribute album.

The petition is based upon the rumour – so far completely unsubstantiated – that Kanye is busy laying down his versions of hits such as Rebel Rebel, Heroes and Ashes To Ashes.

After Bowie’s death, Kanye shared a heartfelt tribute.

But a man by the name of Peter Piranha has started a petition saying: “David Bowie was one of the single most important musicians of the 20th and 21st century, it would be a sacrilege to let it be ruined by Kanye West.”

It’s the latest petition to spring up after Bowie’s death as fans search for a unique, permanent way of commemorating the singer – or stopping Kanye commemorating him.

Here are the weirdest and most wonderful Bowie petitions:

Petition for Bowie to be on the next £20 bank note

The Bank of England asked the public in May last year to nominate a “non-living visual artist” to succeed 18th century Scottish economist Adam Smith as the face on the £20 note.

Over 37,000 people have put their name on a petition to Governor Mark Carney saying that, following his death, Bowie now meets the criteria to feature on the new note.

Simon Mitchell, who started the petition, wrote: “His music has sound-tracked important events in the lives of many of us. His visual art and sense of character brought a new combination of music, performance and imagery into mainstream culture.”

However, the Bank of England said it has accepted no new submissions since July 2015, ruling out the Starman.

Petition for Mars to be renamed after Bowie

Science lessons could get much more interesting if the International Astronomical Union accept the petition to rename the fourth planet from the sun Bowie.

Although the petition is yet to reach its goal of 7,500 signatures, you can’t fault the logic of creator Danny Rapscallion.

“Essentially David Bowie has inspired millions through his art and music particularly spotlighting his fascination with space, the planets & extra terrestrial existence.”

He concluded: “He gave us so much. A piece of the galaxy in return is just a drop in the universe. ”

Petition for Bowie to have his own stamp series

There’s very little joy in facing a long queue at the Post Office but the presence of Bowie on the front of your letter has the potential to exponentially warm the cockles.

Natalie Fenn has amassed nearly 8,000 signature for her petition to commemorate Bowie through a book of special edition postage stamps, like the recent Star Wars and Football Heroes sets.

Ever eager to help the campaign, Natalie’s even suggested stills from Labyrinth, album covers and pictures from V&A’s Bowie retrospective for the stamps.

Apparently he’s already been featured on over 300 objects which showcases “how epic and popular he is”.

Petition for God (or whom it may concern) to send Bowie back to Earth

An Italian has taken on God to demand a Lazarus-style resurrection of the singer.

Addressed to God or whom it may concern, over 11,000 have backed Andrea Natella’s “Say NO to David Bowie dead” petition.

Andrea told the Independent,”It’s a way to think about the way that David Bowie, like other famous people, died like a fictional character. I suppose it’s also a way we can highlight how ineffective most web petitioning can be!”

We won’t be holding our breath to see if this one works.

Petition for a star to be named after Bowie

The International Astronomical Union seem to be bearing the brunt of these petitions with another demanding a constellation in the Space Oddity singer’s name.

“I know the official way of naming stars does not allow for this but there could be a common name much like our historical constellations have common names,” wrote Liz Williams.

It’s obviously captured imaginations as a false news story has already circulated that a Belgian observatory had discovered a new stellar arrangement in the shape of a lightening bolt (like on his 1973 Aladdin Sane album cover) and named it after him.

Over 8,000 supporters would still like to wish upon Bowie’s star one day.

Petition for Bowie to be commemorated in World of Warcraft

Labyrinth GIF – Find & Share on GIPHY

This one needed a disclaimer as apparently Bowie does have a WOW character already called Iggy Darktusk.

Petition founder Emma Jennings has rejected his however because “it looks nothing like him” and wants The Goblin King instead, from his film Labyrinth.

The new WOW film will be directed by David’s son, Duncan Jones, and two were known to play together, so this would actually be quite a lovely commemoration.
