Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed he doesn't watch horror films, despite producing one himself.

The US filmmaker has backed horror thriller Deliver Us From Evil, directed by Scott Derrickson, who previously took the reins on other scary movies such as The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, Hellraiser: Inferno and Sinister.

"I don't (watch scary films), I let other people get frightened by them, not me," he said.

"I'm not a connoisseur of this type of movie but Scott is, and that's why he directed it. I love The Exorcist and Serpico, and this is a combination of the two."

The 70-year-old producer behind box office hits such as the Pirates Of The Caribbean films, Bad Boys and CSI TV series, admitted he doesn't always enjoy the gory scenes either.

He added: "I think sometimes I definitely look away. Not sure if I put my hands over my eyes, but I do turn away."

Deliver Us From Evil, which stars Eric Bana, Edgar Ramirez and Olivia Munn, is Jerry's first horror film. The movie, based on New York policeman Ralph Sarchie and Lisa Collier Cool's book Beware The Night, follows real-life events in Ralph's life when he got involved with an exorcism.

"I like stories about fact - we made a lot of pictures like Black Hawk Down, Remember The Titans, Glory Road and Veronica Guerin so it intrigues me when it's based on real fact. I love procedurals and this is a terrific procedural," he explained.

:: Deliver Us From Evil opens in cinemas on August 22.
