Ireland have failed to make it through to the finals of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest with their youngest ever entrant, 17-year-old Molly Sterling.

Molly performed Playing With Numbers while playing the piano in hopes of seeing her country through to the grand final at Vienna’s Wiener Stadthalle on Saturday night.

But for just the fifth time since the semi-final round was introduced in 2004, Ireland did not manage to make the top 10 of the evening and bag a spot at the weekend show.

They also missed out on the finals in 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2014, but are the most successful country at Eurovision with seven previous wins under their belts.

Molly’s fans tweeted their disappointment at the result.

Countries that did make it through in tonight’s second semi-final included Lithuania, Montenegro, Norway, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Sweden, Cyprus, Slovenia and Poland.

They join Armenia, Belgium, Greece, Estonia, Serbia, Hungary, Russia, Albania, Romania and Georgia who won places in Tuesday’s semi-final, last year’s winners Austria, special guests Australia, and automatic qualifiers UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy.

Austria’s victor from last year’s Eurovision Song Contest Conchita Wurst hosted the evening once again, and UK act Electro Velvet were featured during the vote count saying that they could not wait to get out on stage on Saturday.

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 airs on Saturday on BBC One at 8pm, with UK coverage hosted by Graham Norton.
