Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed he was zapped by a Taser gun as part of his training for new movie End Of Watch.

The Brokeback Mountain star worked with police to prepare to play a cop in the film and said he decided to see what it felt like to be on the receiving end of a stun gun.

He told American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his US radio show: "I did get Tasered. We were at the police academy, they asked us if we wanted to try it out and me being me said, 'Yeah, of course, yeah!'."

Jake was offered the choice between the Taser and pepper spray, but decided not to try the latter because it's "long and painful".

The star admitted the Taser wasn't much fun, but added: "Afterwards it's actually kind of relaxing. After you've had thousands and thousands of volts of electricity going through your body."

The 31-year-old also told how he and co-star Michael Pena spent months on the streets with police to prepare for their roles, and confessed it could get a little scary at times.

He said: "We were protected. We were with some pretty amazing officers when we were out there, but definitely. We were responding with the officers to domestic violence disputes and attempted murders and murders, stolen vehicles. So, there were a number of times where I got a little nervous."
