The Thick Of It star Roger Allam is to get political once again in new thriller The Truth Commissioner, set in Northern Ireland.
Based on the 2008 novel by David Park, the film is to shoot in Belfast, Londonderry and Dublin over the next five weeks.
Set after the Troubles, Roger, 61, stars as Henry Stanfield, a career diplomat who has just been appointed Truth Commissioner to Northern Ireland.
Stanfield is charged with leading an inquiry into the disappearance, 20 years earlier, of 15-year-old boy Connor Roche. But his investigations uncover a tangled web of lies, and truths which none of those in power are prepared to reveal.
The cast also includes The Fall’s Sean McGinley, Mr Selfridge star Tom Goodman Hill, Game Of Thrones actors Conleth Hill and Ian McElhinney, Shadow Dancer actress Brid Brennan and Jimmy’s Hall star Barry Ward.
Filming will take place at historic locations, including Londonderry’s Guildhall – the setting for the Bloody Sunday inquiry – and Belfast’s Stormont Castle – the seat of the Northern Ireland Executive.
The Truth Commissioner, directed by Eden’s Declan Recks, will be broadcast on BBC Northern Ireland later this year.
