There are just a few days left until the fourth swashbuckling instalment of Assassin’s Creed arrives on consoles.

This new story in the historical action-adventure saga has a pirate theme, which players will be able to experience when Black Flag sails into view from October 29 for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Set in 18th Caribbean when outlaws ruled the waves as well as on land, Ubisoft is promising the game will be the “fullest Assassin’s Creed world ever created” with a more open-world feel than previous episodes.

Players will be able to visit more than 50 locations including the cities of Havana, Kingston and Nassau, exploring various settings such as jungles, forts and ruins.

At sea, they will be able to board and capture passing ships.

Features you’ll be able to plunder include captaining and customising your own ship, searching for lost treasure, hunting rare animals and looting underwater shipwrecks.

The central character in Black Flag is described as “young, cocky, and fearsome captain” named Edward Kenway, two of whose descendants were the playable characters of Assassin's Creed III.

Legendary pirates such as Blackbeard, Calico Jack and Benjamin Hornigold feature in the game.
