Get set for a trip into nerd-vana when the latest MCM London Comic Con takes place this weekend.

The huge pop culture convention at ExCel London is a must-visit for fans of sci-fi, gaming, comic books, anime, manga, TV and movies.

Here are five highlights of this October’s geek-fest:

Sherlock

Sadly not Benedict Cumberbatch or Martin Freeman, but fans of the BBC show are still in for a treat. A special panel will be held on Saturday featuring co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss (below) along with producer Sue Vertue and actress Amanda Abbington who plays Dr Watson’s wife Mary.

The panel will no doubt be facing questions about the upcoming episode that will transport the show from its usual modern-day setting back to Victorian London. Moffat and Gatiss will also be sitting on a Doctor Who writers panel.

Famous faces

The MCM events are guaranteed to bring out a galaxy of stars from the big and small screen who fans can listen to, get autographs from or have their pictures taken with, and this one won’t disappoint.

Aside from Sherlock and Dr Who, hit shows Game of Thrones, Humans, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and The Librarians are all represented on the list of special guests.

Games

If you’ve got an itch to see some of the latest games, you’re in luck. A clutch of developers will be at MCM London Comic Con showing off titles such as Dark Souls 3, Sword Art Online and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

Away from the blockbusters and their massive hype, be sure to check out the Indie Games booth where you can check out some the most creative and interesting upcoming works.

Comic books

As its name suggests, MCM London Comic Con is a great place to be if you’re a fan of comic books. Comic Village has around 200 tables and a dedicated stage featuring amateur and professional artists, writers and publishers selling their work and talking about their art.

Cosplay

Going in fancy dress isn’t obligatory at MCM London Comic Con but it’s a BIG part of the event. If you’re travelling around east London over the weekend and spot people dressed as characters from Doctor Who, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Marvel etc, this is what it’ll be for.

Some people of course take it very seriously, so expect to see some very elaborate creations in and around the venue. Believe it or not, there are actually cosplay championships held, and the European final takes place at this weekend’s convention.
