‘To be or not to be’ will not necessarily be the question when Hamlet comes to Croydon – the question may well be ‘whose round is it?’

An all-male performance of Shakespeare’s most famous play on May 16 won’t be at an established theatre but at the Oval Tavern.

The Festival Players Theatre Company, which has been touring professional outdoor Shakespeare plays for more than 30 years, will bring a full-costume show to the pub complete with music specially written by Johnny Coppin of the cult 70s folk group Decameron.

A cast of six will take on all of the roles, costume changes and music.

The company’s artistic director Michael Dyer said: “Our shows are an amalgam of energy, entertainment and colour and we aim to make them clear and transparent, as well as keeping them short for the comfort of our patrons. We set out to take audiences of all ages on a journey and make them feel very much part of the production.”

Tickets cost £7.50. Go to thefestivalplayers.co.uk/tour
