If you're seeking a destination which will thrill your companions as much as it excites you, look no further than Brooklands Hotel in Weybridge, Surrey

Situated on the site of the legendary Brooklands racetrack and airfield – the world's first purpose built real race track - this futuristic looking, four star hotel has lots to offer the whole family, from luxury spa treats for the ladies to track experiences for the men and kids.

And that's not forgetting the historic Brooklands Museum which houses an unparalleled collection of biplanes, jets, supercharged racing cars and motorbikes.

Brooklands is rich in history, and the approach to the predominantly glass hotel is rather unique – as you slip into fourth down the long, straight road with the hotel in front of you and the track to your right, you can literally smell the adrenalin-fuelled atmosphere.

When you're checking in, if you look down you'll notice the world's most historic racing track running through the lobby. And the legacy doesn't stop there – bespoke design references, including a row of silver propellers in the bar, nod to the Art Deco era prevalent during the circuits' heyday, while the signature colours of slate grey and red give a sleek, some might say masculine edge to the bedrooms and public areas.

Speaking of the rooms, you can either go all out for one of seven Panoramic corner suites, with a balcony you could throw a party on and fantastic views across the circuit, or scale down to one of the deluxe rooms, which are still a generous 31 square metres (almost 20 per cent bigger than the average UK hotel room) of luxury and contemporary styling.

Whatever you choose, all rooms feature six foot king sized beds which are the last word in comfort, designer bathrooms with walk-in rain showers, floor-to-ceiling windows and an excellent selection of in-room entertainment. Accompanied by a glass of chilled pink champagne, we explored our suite and discovered that there was more than enough space for the two of us, in fact so much so that we didn't quite know where to put ourselves.

The in-room CD selection accessed on the TV – including Bob Marley, Bryan Adams and Diana Ross - was rather strange, and perhaps revealed a lot as to the type of clientele that stay there. However, the powerful air conditioning system got the thumbs up, and was a real godsend on one of the hottest days of the year.

Aperitifs and dinner are taken in the Brooklands Brasserie & Bar, which has its own private entrance for non-residents. Relax with a cocktail in the leather clad bar, before moving on to the Brasserie which meets the demand for casual, yet high quality dining, with a relaxed but efficient vibe.

The menu is Italian influenced, and as you would expect, everything is presented with style. Sharing plates are the order of the day here, so depending on your appetite, you can pick and choose as much or as little as you like.

I adored the tuna carpaccio with salad of fennel, orange, tomato and dill which was packed with delicate flavour, while my companion equally enjoyed the perfectly chilled pea veloute with parmesan crisp. Produce from the garden, fishmonger and butcher is all carefully sourced and the fish and meat is fresh and of notable quality.

Outside your room, the destination spa offers the chance to chill out and escape the buzz of the racetrack. Situated on the third floor, the outdoor hot tub is perched overlooking the racetrack, while the seven wet and dry treatment rooms, his and hers steam rooms and saunas, meditation room and chic relaxation areas ensures this is a spa to rival central London's finest.

I did not have time to indulge on this occasion, but if I had I would have been first in line for one of the legendary Lubatti facials, or perhaps a body treatment created by Jane Scrivner, the originator of hot and cold stone massages in this country.

For those who want to dip their toe in that Brooklands heritage, there are a range of track and off-road experiences for petrol heads of all ages, including the Family Experience Package, which includes a kid's 30 minute off-road driving experience at the adjacent Mercedes-Benz World, plus tickets to the Brooklands Museum for a day.

There are also packages that will keep both you and your partner happy, such as the 'His and Hers' Spa and Car package which starts at just £149 per person including bed and breakfast.

If you're looking to spend some time in a stylish yet family-friendly environment with plenty to see and do, you could do no worse than to check out – and check in to – Brooklands Hotel.
