Personal Overview - Likely to be a new style results based Conservative member, approaching politics from more of a 'getting things done' business perspective, and results will be important in this marginal seat captured on an above average swing. She has had an active career in the business/finance sector and has gained political experience as a Councillor and within the party as a Bow Group Officer. More locally, she has campaigned with Southfields and Ashburton Estate residents against the closure of their local post offices. She has lead the District Line campaign pressing for a better service and cleaner tube trains. Her career continued to advance when she entered the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Transport in October 2011. She was moved sideways at the 2012 reshuffle to cover International Development. Some commentators linked this move to her opposition to the further development of Heathrow Airport which had become a contentious issue.
