More locally, she has campaigned with Southfields and Ashburton Estate residents against the closure of their local post offices. Her career continued to advance when she entered the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Transport in October 2011. She was moved sideways at the 2012 reshuffle to cover International Development. Some commentators linked this move to her opposition to the further development of Heathrow Airport which had become a contentious issue.
