If you hear a familiar voice on the train platform this week do not worry - you have not stumbled on to the set of EastEnders or a Carry On movie.

On Thursday, a message by actress Barbara Windsor will be delivered to promote the Royal British Legion’s 2012 Poppy Appeal, supported by rail operator South West Trains (SWT), at Wimbledon, Clapham Junction, and Richmond stations.

The company is allowing uniformed Armed Forces personnel to travel free on Wednesday and Thursday and has invited employees who previously served to wear their military decorations at work.

The managing director of the SWT-NetworkRail Alliance, Tim Shoveller, said: “Money raised through the Poppy Appeal is used to help thousands of ex-servicemen and women who have fought for our country over many years.

“It’s only right that we remember those who were lost in action and pay tribute to the sacrifices that were made, and continue to be made, by our servicemen and women around the world.”
