VIDEO: Director Alex Masterton creates film in tribute to Balham homeless friend Pat Carr

A director has created a film in tribute to his homeless friend who died last year.

Alex Masterton, a director, producer and film lecturer is hoping to raise money for homeless charity Shelter through the creation of his film Paddy's Paradise.

The film is based on the story of Pat Carr, 50, a homeless man who used to live on the streets of Balham and died in January 2011.

It was shot in Balham and stars four actors, including comedian Arthur Smith, who also knew Pat.

St Mary's Church in Balham often used to give him cups of tea and food, but he mainly slept in alleyways in the area.

Mr Masterton hopes to raise more money for Shelter by entering the film into several international film festivals.

He said: "Paddy’s Paradise was made possible thanks to the generosity and kind support of many people. 

"The film is inspired by and dedicated to anyone in the world who is currently suffering or has suffered the plight of homelessness."

A fundraising screening is taking place on Friday at Alter Ega, Balham High Road, from 9pm to 11pm.
